BioBlitz at the Beaty Biodiversity Museum (UBC Herbarium)
This activity introduces students to biological diversity (variation within and between species and how biodiversity is preserved) through an interactive exploration of the Beaty Biodiversity research specimens. Adaptable to one or multi-day activities, two versions are presented here.

Learning Objectives
- Observe and measure variation within a single species.
- Identify key information from specimen labels and recognize importance of good record keeping (and consequences of poor record keeping)
- Gain insight to the history and variation of collection data throughout time.
- Recognize that collection data are historical records that can vary greatly and require strict organization.
- Recognize role of the Beaty Biodiversity Museum in collections-based research and preserving a historical record of biodiversity.
- Explain the importance of preserving more than a single specimen for a given species.
